The following petition is in support of encouraging the Jefferson City Public School System in Jefferson City, MO to begin developing a plan that would protect children who have either allergies, asthma, or who are afraid of dogs. The following petition provides signers with the opportunity to suggest how dogs are handled. Some supporters suggest limiting interaction between dogs and children to certain areas of the school (with parent approval) and others suggest the district eliminate dogs all together as part of staff. Please sign your name along with your preference. Thank you.

Refining the proposed guidelines for district administration remains my primary focus as I process the feedback provided here. The range of perspectives regarding animal presence in classrooms is informative and highlights the complexity of balancing safety with educational needs.

My son has severe asthma and just being near a dog triggers him. He shouldn't be scared to go to class because of an animal. Schools need to be safe for everyone.

Keep the dogs out of the classrooms entirely. Too many kids have allergies and you cant control the dander in a shared space. Simple as that.

Dogs in school are a bad idea. Kids get bit and some are terrified. Just keep them at home.
