I live in this rural community to enjoy certain freedoms not possible in the city. Let's lighten up about things like dogs on beaches. Can we please? Its suffocating and excessive. Thanks.

current solutions are completely geared toward placating complaining humans, instead of looking at the community as a whole that includes dogs.

I have enjoyed Pritchard Park for years every Saturday and Sunday early morning with my black lab,Cooper. The park reminds me of Bainbridge when I moved here i 1978. Great place for dogs and, therefore, a great place for people. Works that way in my view. Pritchard Park on early weekend mornings is a place of leash-less joy. Tail wagging dominates. I knew Joel Pritchard and his unfenced golden retriever named Pickle. Pickle ran Pleasant Beach like he owned it., Friend to all. The game of Pickle Ball was named in commemoration of Joel's good dog. Where ever Joel may be at this stage of his after life he is questioning any organization which would prevent Pickle from swimming a park named after the Congressman.

Keith, thank you so much for taking the lead on this. My Chesapeake, Esther Williams, loves Pritchard Park and would be profoundly disappointed if her swimming activity were to cease there. As you said, time for dog lovers to speak up and not be drowned out by those who are seeking the totally risk free environment.

Many dogs cannot get enough exercise at the end of a leash, and dog parks don't work for all dogs (or people). Some dogs -- older animals, those with ortho problems -- can't run and really need to be able to swim somewhere. Fortunately, we live on an island, and there's a way we can all peacefully coexist! Off-leash hours at Pritchard Park would be a great step in the direction of making time and space for dogs to be dogs.

Has anyone considered a happy alternative? We moved to the island from Boulder, CO where we had a program called voice and sight control, it was an additional tag that we purchased through the city for around $20 per dog that verified that our dogs could be trusted under voice and sight control. I thought that it was a reasonable way to ensure people and pet happiness and safety.
