There are plans in the pipe line for Weston Playing field to be turned into a big childrens park with sports facilities etc. I am a responsible dog owner and I mainly use the field for walking my two dogs each morning and evening. As there are no areas close by to allow dogs to run freely and safely off leash I would like the council to consider creating a small area for a fenced in dog park/area. A small enclosed grassy area similar to that at the bottom of the park currently with dog bins for rubbish would be ideal. This will allow owners to exercise their dogs in a safe enclosed area rather than allowing them to run in the open space on the playing field soon to be childrens park. A dog park is an excellent source of dog-dog social interaction and more importantly an excellent source of dog-people interaction as well as people-people interaction. It will reduce the number of dogs running around off leash and unsupervised fouling the surrounding area freely. Dogs should only be allowed to enter the area with its owner and all off leash play should be supervised by owners.
