The Moray Council are planning to cut The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Moray, which currently supports over 300 young people and over 60 adult volunteers in this region who, between them, provide the equivalent of over £500,000 of volunteering to our local Moray communities yearly (based on minimum wage) The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is recognised as the world's leading achievement for young people and it is of massive importance to this region. If the Moray Council were to cut DofE from its budget, the effects would be massive for young people and volunteers alike. At present it is a thriving and highly successful initiative and without Moray Council support the award would suffer dramatically. The Award contributes fully towards curriculum for excellence targets for young people, offers opportunities for 16 plus activity agreements and delivers on the single outcome agreement for the Council.
