Wasatch County not only does not "NEED" a pool they cannot afford one both from a capital cost and then the cost that it would incur for maintenance and operation.
If there are those who desire a pool let the build one at their own cost for their own use and pleasure.

the county has no business putting up tax payers monies for such projects. It should be done with private funds!

Even the consideration for taxing the public to build an aquatic facility for the use by approx. 15 to 20% of the residence is absurd. I call it socialism period. If those who desire and want an aquatic facility let them build and use it with their own funding. I checked with the Sorenson aquatic facility in SLC (donated by the Sorenson family) and it costs a huge tax burden annually to maintain and operate with approx. 4% of public utilization.
I say let those who want the facility build and operate it on their own dime. We need a government that stays within their bounds and is fiscally responsible and accountable to it's citizens.

I do not feel that this project is being developed out of a real, public desire or need for a pool. To me, it seems to be being driven by the Parks & Rec staff, who want to grow their "kingdom" and their budget. I do not believe that sufficient study has been undertaken of surrounding community's pools and their usage. We also need to know what assumptions of usage and ongoing maintenance costs have been made. These have not been made public as yet, so there is a distinct lack of transparency in the cost assumptions.

I say we need to identify our needs vs. our wants. A pool is not a need. We will soon be so over crowded in our schools that we will have to bond to build more schools. Do we want to pit our schools against a rec center?

There are a lot of things in Wasatch County that we don't need: Parks, libraries, football, basketball, baseball or any other sports park or amenity, senior center, "pony palace", fair grounds, etc., etc. We could eliminate everything that was not essential and we would then have a community that no one would want to belong. What the discussion should be about is not what is NEEDED, but what is BEST for the community at large. There are many in the community that love horses and get a lot of use of the "pony palace". I'm not one of them, but I have no objection to it's existence because it adds to the flavor of the whole area and promotes a lot of what makes up the Heber Valley. I see where there is a great need for the center and would be used by a greater number of people than the "pony palace". I am not a swimmer, but I do have grandchildren where the center would be a great attraction when they come to visit (rather than taking them to Kamas, which is generally what we do when they come).

This proposed facility is just too expensive and elaborate for the average Wasatch County resident. I think we have to decide what our priorities are. We have no idea what the financial burden for O & M would be going into the future.

The "Best" for the community may be those things that the 'community' develops on their own. Was Heber Valley Theater developed by a govt entity? How about Swiss Days, isn't that a private group? Or Rotary, Boy Scouts, Ham Radio, Empty Nesters, or a multitude of other groups getting together on their own? It is NOT necessary to go to govt for all your desires

I've written and written regarding this topic. It just doesn't seem to go away. VOTE NO on a 24 Million bond in November for a pool and soccer fields. It is absolutely ridiculous for one to expect all citizens of Wasatch County to pay for your pleasure. Stop and think, would you want to pay for someone's follies such as a golf course, a x-country ski course, a velodrome? NO! And the citizens should not even entertain the thought that everyone should be taxed/assessed with someone else's play. As I've suggested before, pool your money and build your pool and then charge those that want to use the facility. The government should not be involved in these 'wants'.
What are we teaching our children when we say we want a pool, and we don't have the money to build one, but go to the government and say write a bond and charge all citizens of the county? We need to do without until the money has been saved, and then build the pool. Mattie

We need a pool. If you were to go look at the pool at TIS, you will see it is disgusting. It is used for swim lessons, swim teams, water polo teams and underwater certifications. It is time for a new pool. It does not need to be fancy, we just need a new pool.
