The Golden Globes finally recognized the feature documentary category today. It has been a long and draining road to reach this point but I am relieved that the work paid off. Keep watching to ensure they follow through with the integrity this genre deserves.

Final supporters
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is currently in the process of exploring among its membership and its partners whether adding a feature documentary category to the Golden Globes would be appropriate.
As members of the documentary and wider film community, we are joining forces to strongly encourage this prestigious award ceremony to recognize the documentary form alongside all the other genres it celebrates each year, as all the other major film and television awards now do.

From THE COVE to HELL AND BACK AGAIN to SEARCHING FOR SUGARMAN, documentaries have provided some of the best cinematic storytelling of recent years. They deserved to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association
As a documentary filmmaker & lover of this genre, I strongly urge the Foreign Press Association with its sophisticated sensibilities to include documentaries as reflecting some of the best filmmaking and articulation in a broader media.
The documentary genre, with all its evolving sub-genres that serve and adapt to the needs of the future generations, is not only one of the latest bastions of true independent international journalism, but also an art form which aesthetics have the power to engage viewers in the construction of a safer and healthier world.
Considering its critical role and rising importance in illuminating many of the pressing issues and stories of our times, it is imperative that documentaries have their own category in the annual Golden Globes.
As the producer of an Acadmy Award winning documentary and an Academy Award nominated documentary producer, I feel that the Golden Globes should look at non-fiction works.
Any publicity even from the Foreign Press Assoc would be good.

The Golden Globes used to give an award to the Best Documentary. It is time for the HFPA to bring back this prestigious honor. Please give this serious consideration. We hope you reinstate the GG for Best Documentary. The art form us at an all-time peak and we hope you decide to honor the form with your statuette. Thank you!
