Dear Speaker Chopp, Majority Leader Brown, and Gov. Gregoire:

The most important job of legislators and the governor is the state budget. By law, it must be balanced.

For over six months, our current budget has been out of balance—it spends more than the state expects to receive. That is a problem, it is illegal, and it is your job to solve it.

Every day you delay makes the problem more difficult because the shortfall is spread over a shorter time period. You know this.

We demand that you do your job: stop the distractions, finger-pointing, back-room politicking, and foot-dragging and proceed with an immediate and transparent process to bring the budget back into balance using existing revenue.
