We, students of Lambton College in the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program, have found it challenging to deal with the methodology and way the class AML 1403 “Artificial Intelligence - A Canadian Perspective” is driven.
We complain about:
Lack of structure in the classes, as there is no introduction, explanation, but direct hands-on-work on coding in Google Collab, without proper context. The class outline doesn’t match the focus seen in class. We were starting with code in Python on Google Colab. When the syllabus described theory about Artificial Intelligence in the Canadian context We feel the teacher tends to ask many questions about topics unrelated to class subjects, taking time from the class that could be useful to learn the class subject. This teaching method is affecting many students, as they have no background in Artificial Intelligence or Programming in Python. The teacher’s name is Farzad Amirjavid, and this petition requests a methodology change to be more inclusive and focused on the course outline. Taking into account that many students are doing their first contact with the course subject.
As the issues persist, there is a need to take action from the academic team of Lambton College to guarantee academic quality and to ensure the students have the educational resources to learn.
