It would be best to not have the oil and gas companies here at all but if there is no way to stop it then we had better be very thorough and very specific regarding the protections for citizens and regulations for safety. When and if they do come we should also be allowed full access and full disclosure to everything they are doing. People should be using video filming, notarized contracts, public Q and A, and any and all other tools we have at our disposal to keep them honest and keep us as safe as possible. But I really hope there is some way to stop the whole thing all together.

My family moved to Gem County for a better way of life. We wanted to live, raise cattle and crops, and enjoy life in a healthy environment. It is difficult to believe that we have to ask for these protections from our county commissioners, who also live in this beautiful place, even thought they know what the risks of drilling are. Is the financial gain worth all that we risk loosing? I think not. Protections need to be in place for our air, water, land, and safety of our citizens. Our environment and our lives are valuable and should be treated as such. I would greatly appreciate our elected officials looking at doing all that they can to protect the citizens of Gem and their land. Thank you.

After watching the results of fracking throughout the United States, I am very much against fracking as it seems to lead to unwanted earthquakes and fouls the water we will drink in the future.

Allowing this to happen without a public vote is ridiculous. Behind closed door politics is unacceptable. We need to stand up and stop this.

There are a number of citizens in SW Idaho who are working hard to ensure that Idahoans are protected from the devastation that the oil and gas industry has caused in some 40 states around the nation. Please pay attention to the warnings and advice they have compiled to pass on to local and state governments and to the people whose lives, health and properties are threatened by the oil and gas leases being sold by the State of Idaho!

It can be assumed that the oil and gas industry is extremely sophisticated, when it comes to taking any advantage of local laws, which may have latent loopholes. It is prudent to take a proactive approach, to have comprehensive rules in place.
Gem County is extremely fortunate to have Joe Morton and those who are working closely with him, draft these documents to protect Gem County, its residents - for present and future generations.

We must protect our citizens, our water, our air, and our property values. We must insist on an appropriate and strong ordinances. This ordinance is the ONLY protection that our short sighted government has allowed us. We need high dollar bonds set by oil companies, guaranteed monies provided by oil and gas companies to repair roads, and strong protection from noise, pollution, traffic, spills, pipeline placement, etc. We can't fix these problems after the damage has been done.

I do not believe someone else should have the right to destroy our basic right to clean air/water and to good health. . .

Any action in Gem County affects all
Idahoans. Our clean rivers, mountains and lakes will all be impacted by any oil & gas exploration. It's time to rethink our dependence on fossil fuels and think green.

I am in Boise County. However, the Gem County line boarders our property. I believe it is of the utmost importance to protect the natural resources and citizens rights.
