DO WE REALLY NEED ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL?
Eastern Passage was promised a new high school in 2012 without the inclusion of all citizens it would impact. Most of the Cole Harbour community assumed the school was being built because Eastern Passage's population warranted one. However, because their population does not warrant a new high school, it was brought to the attention of the parents who's children attend the feeder schools for Astral Junior High, their boundaries would change and their children will have to attend this new high school. It was recently recommended that the school board should not go ahead with the new high school, that the funds should be allocated towards much needed repairs for our existing schools and overcrowding of schools enduring increasing enrollment. Surely 21 million dollars could be better allocated to meet our needs vs wants. This does not just impact the families of Cole Harbour, this impacts everyone who relies on the government to spend our tax dollars sensibly and judiciously. We understand the concerns of the Eastern Passage community, however we must look at the facts in this debate and not just shift the burden to other communities in order to satisfy the wants of just one community. Now that we are aware of the impact, OUR voices must be heard.
