Do NOT remove lit Mitchell Park tennis courts

Please do not convert the existing Tennis courts to Pickle ball courts. Just make sure that the existing pickle ball courts have lights available at night. Long before, during, and after renovation of the Tennis courts, there was no indication of strong Pickle ball interest in the park. If the city can’t add all other sports courts in the park, just converting the existing tennis courts to pickle ball courts doesn’t show the genuine support for the sports.

I have nothing against pickleball, I am just wondering why Palo Alto needs to foot the bill for this and why now? If the City has discretionary funds to do this work that is not in our plan, then perhaps other projects that are underfunded should occur first.

I totally agree that the Mitchell Park Courts are well-use by Palo Alto's Tennis community. Furthermore, the surfaces at Rinconada and Cubberly are cracked and dangerous. They need attention rather than have Pickleball courts.

We the Tennis players need all 7 Tennis courts at Mitchell Park to stay as tennis courts. Please do not convert them to anything else. Please please.....

We are Palo Altans living close to Mitchell Park. My young children often try to play tennis at Mitchell Park, only to find that a massive group of adult Pickleball players (not a single young child) hog the entire court #s 5-7 for hours and hours on end. I heard that most of them are not even Palo Alto residents, and the group has been wandering from various parks to parks around the SF Bay Area and getting kicked out, only to end up at Mitchell Park where a few Palo Alto residents lead the group. The other tennis courts are either used by lessons or adults, so they have no choice but to go home and give up tennis. Mitchell Park already has TWO dedicated Pickleball courts, yet many times the Pickleball players do not even use them. If the Pickleball players get their way of converting our lit tennis courts for their exclusive use, can the City convert the existing Pickleball courts into tennis courts, and additionally install lights? The Pickleball players do not seem to mind that, judging from the fact that they don't use those courts...

We should keep the tennis court.

The tennis court is for the tennis player, so there is no reason to allow player who other than tennis player because it is tennis court. Thank you.

Most tennis courts are used by many tennis players most of time. It’s not reasonable to remove the tennis courts. I strongly oppose to remove any tennis court from Mitchell Park.

Nothing against pickle ball players as I see one day I will be one of them. But it would be great if the city can identify new territory for pickle ball courts without converting the existing tennis courts that are already in high demands.

Currently, the existing courts (Cubberly & Rinconada) are extremely unsafe and which increases the city's liability due to the fact there have been multiple serious injuries occured on the courts. So the city should be prudent about spending the taxpayers money by ensuring all existing courts are safe !

I play both pickleball and tennis. It would be ideal to have all new courts for pickleball rather than removing existing tennis courts. But if that is not possible, then making the three tennis courts multi-use courts for both pickleball AND tennis would be the best solution. I also agree that the existing tennis courts at Rinconada and Cubberley need to be resurfaced as they are chipping and have many raised cracks.

Please give the pickle all players their own courts and keep our tennis courts for tennis players.

I would like to find a solution for BOTH pickleball and tennis. There are so few available tennis courts in Palo Alto, it is really hard to find courts. It would be great if we could find a way to help the pickleball users and to keep as many (lit) tennis courts as possible in Palo Alto.

I play tennis every week at Mitchell Park with 8 other 60+ women. We have done this for 20 years. In the summers there are always people waiting on courts to play in the evening, so the demand exists. I challenge the Parks department to provide a win-win for both the tennis and pickleball communities. It is certainly doable.

I am 77 years old Palo Altan and play tennis 3 time a week in the courts by the magic bridge. Please don't deny me this fun and healthy activity.

I am strongly against removing or converting the bus court s in Mitchell park: they are shared resources for amateur tennis players and also middle school , high school young players.

I am a tennis player and think that they can line the pickle ball court onto the tennis court thus satisfying all of us.

There are not enough tennis courts now, we do not need less!

We need more tennis courts not less!!
