Human rights activist and political poet Joke Kaviaar is facing six months of jail time.
In recent years, she wanted to provide equal human rights to people-without-papers.
The state of the Netherlands sees her as a threat to homeland security and attempted to force her to censor all her poetry and art work of which she refused.
She is now facing imprisonment for not censoring her art work. The state wants to criminalize her words and actions under 'intent to terrorism'.
This is yet another where occurrence where free speech and basic human rights are severely violated in The Netherlands; a country that hosts the human rights tribunal in The Hague.
A final verdict will be given Jan 22nd, 2013. When the whole world is watching, her and our rights might stay protected. This is essential for the future of activism!
Read on her website her final plea, "Every Word is a Spark! http://www.jokekaviaar.nl/Elk_woord_een_vonk.html
Do not let the Netherlands government silence her!

The international attention surrounding this case continues to grow as more people recognize the implications of censoring an artist. I am currently coordinating with legal observers to ensure that every document is prepared for the upcoming final proceedings. Your commitment to protecting these fundamental rights remains the primary focus of my work behind the scenes.

The level of international attention surrounding this case has grown significantly over the past few days. This momentum proves that the attempt to silence dissent through criminal charges will not go unnoticed by the public.

This is honestly sickening. Locking someone up for writing poems is something you expect in a dictatorship not in the netherlands. Free Joke now!

Ridiculous that she is being threatened like this just for speaking her mind. Since when is art a crime?

What a joke this justice system has become. They are terrified of a few words because they know she is right about the way they treat people.
