This is ridiculous - as a burlesque performer, if there is one thing that I love about the art form it's that it's so diverse and accepting, regardless of gender, race, age, class, body shape and size, and background. Anyone who believes it is 'middle class stripping' is clearly very misinformed

This shouldn't be cancelled! I have done a few classes with Kitty Beaumont and I have never felt uncomfortable with anything that has been done. I also been it has helped me become more confident in myself each class because it allows us to just feel relaxed and embrace the body we have and be proud of it.

It is not any student union's remit to be dictated to by a university, let alone a minority of one lecturer, when it comes to students freedom of expression and safe enjoyment by the student body. They have failed miserably in their purpose to advance student interests and act as a barrier against antiquated objection from the university.

As much as I hate to disagree with someone who supports this course, I have to challenge Natalie's comment.
Burlesque began as a comedic, satirical statement art - bread and circuses for the working masses - and was never run as a misogynistic institution! Everything else I totally agree with. When the Minskys began their re-vamp of European 1800s Burlesque in contemporary America, the women were respected for having such control over their bodies and their lives.
Gypsy Rose Lee hardly even stripped. She would talk to the audience, be funny, clever and entertaining, which is essentially what Burlesque has become today!

this should not be cancelled! I am involved with the renegade angels burlesque group in Hull and love the effect burlesque has on our ladies. I've never seen so many confident and proud women under one roof. do not cancel and allow women to miss out on such a wonderful opportunity. burlesque is tease not sleaze. don't be ignorant, it is positive for everyone.

Burlesque, although originating from stripping, has become a wonderful art form used to express sexuality, all different body shapes and is empowering, despite it's misogynistic roots the male gaze is not present and can therefore be fully enjoyed by women, feminist or not, political views are irrelevant when it comes to the women's committee. The committee caters to all women, not just those with political beliefs.

Completely unreasonable, and a double standard considering events such as the Man Auction are allowed to go ahead.

This is absolutely ridiculous I am a burlesque performer and I am certainly not middle class and don't know any middle class girls in the Hull area who are.

My body is exactly that, my body. I can do what I please with it without thought of other people. Burlesque is an art form and has been around since the 1920s. If you read burlesque history it's based on what you don't show not what you do. It's empowering and it's beautiful.

Burlesque has given me a lot of confidence in myself. It teaches us girls to be creative with our bodies. We're told Burlesque is about tease and reveal , but we've never been forced to take clothes off ! Kit teaches us that it is OUR choice to reveal or not. We have all been treated with respect and I for one feel a little sassier and in control of my own size 20 body.

You can't get rid of someone's hobby just because you don't understand it. Learn about how much this boosts people confidence and self esteem, it's what us folks need these days. Keep this up!
