The school board just confirmed that the new athletic facility will be named in honor of DJ. Seeing his name on that building will keep his spirit alive for every player who walks through those doors. Thank you for helping us ensure our boy is never forgotten.

This petition is to honor the life of a very special young man. DJ McDowell was a freshman football player at Veterans High School in Kathleen, GA. DJ collapsed suddenly at practice a week ago due to a cardiac condition that was unknown to the family and only discovered by medical personnel after his cardiac arrest. DJ left his physical body on 11/10/2020. However, he continues to live on spiritually and in the hearts of all who know and love him. DJ was a great student, making A's and B's and never got into any trouble or had any disciplinary action. DJ loved and is loved tremendously by both sets of his parents, Charles and Tanzia Humprhies and Daniel and O'Shonda McDowell, his two sisters and two brothers, grandparents, and his entire extended family. DJ's dream was to move to Georgia and play football and he was living his dream until he left us.

The family, players, parents and community at large are heartbroken and devastated by this loss and want DJ to be honored and remembered in a special way. Veterans High School will be breaking ground on a new multipurpose athletic facility in the coming weeks. As a united football family, the players and parents are asking that you join us in signing this petition to honor DJ by having this building named after him. We also ask that you continue to pray for the Humphries and McDowell families and visit our Gofundme page to donate and assist the family with expenses that have been accrued associated with DJ's medical care and passing. Please share this petition on all of your social media platforms so we can get as many signatures as possible. Thank you.

Seeing how many people cherish DJ and his memory has been a profound comfort to our grieving families during this impossible time. We are currently working to arrange a formal meeting with the school administration to present your signatures and discuss the legacy this building could carry for his name.

Seeing this much love for DJ fills my heart and reminds me how many people truly valued the light he brought into this world. I am so grateful that you continue to keep his memory alive while we push to have this facility named in his honor.
