Currently in the Sherman elementary children with food allergies are given 2 options. Sit by themselves at a "allergy free table" or sit amongst their piers and risk the exposure to the foods they may be allergic to, some if these foods even causing death by just touch. The school lunches are not an issue, they are safe for our children to consume and be around. It is the sack lunch that creates a hazard for these students with allergies. Many surrounding schools make great accommodations for their students to be sure that someone is not bring singled out while also looking out for their safety. It has been brought to Mrs. Lindsey's attention that a great option would be for those consuming hot lunches sit at hot lunch tables and those with sack lunch sit at a sack lunch table. Mrs. Lindsey feels that this is not a "practical" approach for how the cafeteria is ran and would be too hard to seat them. Please support the awareness of food allergies and day to day issues that we as parents or suffering from allergies face to make sure our children are safe. Every 8 minutes a child dies from a food allergy. Lets not let one of those students be one of ours.
