District 64- wants to segregate 5th grade special needs kids

As someone who works in the education department as well as nannying a child with special needs... I’m sorry this is WRONG!!!! “These students” needs to be placed back in there classroom with there friends and continue with the education that they ALL deserve.... if you change these students “regular routine” some will wonder what’s going on.... where are my friends...

Please allow Chloe Brown, and ALL her peers the right to a K-5 education in a K-5 school. Please do not discriminate against children with special needs.

I am concerned about the impact that this decision would have on the Special Education students. From what I can tell, it does not seem like the students relocation is the least restrictive environment for these students. These students should complete their 5th grade year in the same environment where they began their elementary studies.

Have you forgotten why you went into the profession of educating children? Clearly, this consideration is based upon monetary concerns, not the concerns of children who already carry a label... now you want them to attend school with students who are clearly entering a very difficult age! Shame on you for even entertaining the concept. This is an embarrassment to Park Ridge!!

This proposal makes no sense. No individual assessments and placing 5th grd special needs with 6th, 7th, and 8th grdrs ... good grief - in what way is that a good scenario? Who is watching out for the needs of the children!?

If this passed, it would cause so many negative emotional issues for the children who already feel “different” from their peers! Children in special ed are integrated into traditional classrooms for a reason! This would segregate them from their peers and thier elementary school! Please do not let this pass!

How could you possibly think this is good? This is obviously not done in the best interest of the child. IEP should help in deciding the well being of a child.

This is horrible.

As a father of a special needs son, I find this thought process appalling. Any sort of segregation is wrong. Education is the best way to silence this backwards thinking, and a superintendent who things this way needs to go back to school, retire, or be fired....immediately!

This is a bad idea and I highly doubt these children would be ready for middle school early. If our children, who aren’t physically or mentally challenged, aren’t ready for middle school early, then this is a really bad idea.

Don’t do it.

That’s a bad idea. These kids enough of a struggle!! Let them stay with their peers.

This is so wrong, not to mention in violation of IDEA.

Children should learn in the best environment for both educational and social needs. Age related opportunities and interaction is vital for growth.

Has the district put forth some sort of reasoning as to why they believe this will be beneficial to the impacted students?
