It's going to be -2 without windchill tomorrow morning, -20ish with it. There is no logic in any of this. There are 5,500 elementary students. 9,500 Middle and High school. So probably ~10,000 taking the bus. When I used to take the bus it took 15 minutes or so of waiting due to how inconsistent the bus schedules are (If you didn't wait that long you risked getting left). In ~15 minutes you will get frostbite in this weather. Probably 50% of students who will be waiting for a bus will get picked up before frostbite occurs, or will be dressed heavily enough. Roughly 5,000-2,500(50-25%)of bus riding students will still not be picked up at that time or will be not be dressed heavy enough to stay comfortable, thus up to 2,500ish students will be at very likely risk of frostbite. Sure, you can contest that its worth it, and school is very important. However, I feel students shouldn't suffer to gain a education. One should not be subjected to a high possibility of injury, if it is preventable. Our educational system is geared towards providing "free" high quality education to the nations youth, so why are we not abiding by that standard? Why don't we have firm policy surrounding weather closings? Why are we chancing thousands of students safety? However, I am very thankful for the education I have received, as it has empowered me to make logical arguments as this.

Every other school is closed and you have five days of snow days so cancel it no one wants to go and for the people who walk and have no other option it's too cold no matter what your age is

Nobody is going to school tomorrow as it is! Most of the students parents are letting them stay home! It's going to be colder tomorrow then it was today. I don't understand.

I don't think the kids should have to be out in this weather period. it's way to cold. My daughter walks 3 to 4 blocks to here school, so she won't be going because I don't want her to catch phenomena or be sick.

How can the district make children go to school when conditions are worse than the emergency day conditions?
