Distracted driving causes more accidents and deaths than drunk driving. Many states like Washington State have banned all drivers from texting while driving. This does not stop them from making phone calls. I would like to amend the Washington State law for texting while driving to include that all vehicles manufactured starting on January 1st, 2016 have a lockbox that drivers must place cell phones in before being able to start the car. Drivers would still be able to use bluetooth capabilities. In addition to the amendment of the law, I would like to have a lesson in all Drivers ED classes on distracted driving where they show videos and stories of people who have gotten into accidents from using a cell phone while driving.
