So they get rid of hard-working people who don't sponge off the state and in doing so they add to the unemployment figures.

Hard working family who have invested their hearts and money into the community... They should be given the opportunity to stay.

Home Office and the British government - you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. Is there anyone in these two bodies who is capable of the application of a little common sense, here?

Ludicrous to not permit permanent stay here.
Working, investing their money here. Family born here.
When considering the number of skill-less people to whom we afford liberty and I'm sure at least £1m in housing and benefits-this is a system 'gone wrong'.
I am so pleased to offer my support to them, by way of signature.

Having known two previous owners of the sad little Laggan shop, it is amazing how much this family have added to the local community.
One cannot overestimate the effect that a family like this can give: support, local spend, increasing footfall. The financial benefit to the community goes far beyond just their store, accommodation and a job.
The village seems to have waited years for a family like this to revitalise the area and economy!
I live in a similar village which is growing fast and many give our local shop as a reason for choosing the location.
Laggan is a very long way from anywhere. The next shop is as far away as Westminster to Kew!

This appalling situation shows a breathtaking lack of common sense, with slavish adherence to a policy which was not intended to apply to a situation such as this. By this action, children who were born in the UK will be uprooted along with their hardworking, tax-paying parents and the local community will lose valued residents and important local amenities. Who gains from this idiocy?

They've invested their whole lives in Scotland. Their children were born there, surely that makes them Scottish. Give them a break!
