Calling for Dialogue on the Direction of the UUA

I support an approach that is less divisive than the approach UUA has taken. I have read both books and believe UUA should apologize to Reverend Eklof.

What in the hell is going on here?

We need to get together again and try to love and understand others who disagree with us.

We need unity not division. We need to stay in covenant with our principles not to go to extremes nor lay guilt on others because they are white. We are all children of the One and we need to recognize and act on that.

I am very concerned about the censuring of a minister for expressing an opinion. I am also concerned that some churches have "banned" a book. It's one thing for an organization to express a strong opinion about a book; it's another to refuse to make a congregation aware of it or make it available. Having a free and open discussion of the subject seems like a more UU approach.

I support this effort.

I have read both books. At first I was angry but now I'm sad that that the UUA has pandered to the extremists. Let us hope things improve

Let us stick with our original principles

The UUA and hundreds of UU ministers, who censured Todd Eklof, need to change their "thought police" attacks on the principles of our faith. Calling all persons who are white as being supporters of "white supremacy culture" is itself a racist accusation. And it is profoundly ignorant of the many white persons who are not racist. The accusation that persons who deny being racists suffer from "white fragility" is also insulting and ignorant.

Twenty years ago I envisioned a UU church in south Austin and, after a lot of work by a lot of people, it came into being. In 2018 the church sent out an email saying the founders of the church had based it on a "culture of white supremacy." It has been heart-breaking to witness the church I envisioned follow the UUA's divisive, mean-spirited and accusatory approach that divides us instead of using an approach that would unite us in common cause to address the institutional racism that continues to pervade our culture. When did maligning and shaming one another become one of our UU values? We're driving people away from church instead of welcoming them with love.

I want brotherhood, not division.

This request is such a welcomed light. I have been estranged (sadly) from our church for 5 months due to the approach our church has taken. Glad to see there may be a path back for me!

I am so glad to hear that this movement has reached this point. Until now, the only organized resistance I knew of was within our congregation.

We all have an obligation to call out hypocrisy when we encounter it.

We must be true to our principles and walk our talk

I fully support this effort and the related Fifth Principle Project (fifthprincileproject.org)

I support dialogue on this and other critical issues in our denomination.

I continue to believe that the UUA needs to apologize to Reverend Eklof and the congregation of the UUCS.

I support this petition because I believe that the UUA is not living up to it's avowed principles as atated in the petition.
