Develop 16th/18th and Peoria

Quality development of housing and retail on this lot would benefit everyone who lives in the neighborhood and surrounding area.

Development will help not hurt the needs of Chicago residents. Responsible, thought out, and vetted information is needed, but what good does vacant land do inthe City of Chicago, nothing!

A well developed piece of land is far better for our community then an empty lot

For those of us who bought and live in the area, that is such a scary and unsafe place to walk through if we want to walk around our own neighborhood. A park, paved streets, the ability to get through from one side to the other, street lights, more developments housing or retail- anything but the rocky - half demolished area that is sitting there would make the property value go up and allow those of us who live here feel safe. It's a haven for homeless, drug dealers, graffiti, unsanitary and a place were citizens could get easily hurt.

As a home owner in the Pilsen neighborhood for the past 10 years I would love to see it be developed into a mix of residential and retail (home grown, not corporate). Just my dream and two cents to keep Pilsen thriving and an area that others want to come to

Our world and neighborhoods change. What was UV used to be warehouses and ethnic shopping areas that are gone. Let that growth and change continue.

I am a Pilsen resident living 2 blocks away. I may not exactly like the developers proposal but I strongly agree something has to happen with this massive empty lot. Pilsen has a very high rate of unused land/apartments and is in need of residents to support the community businesses and growth. We are 1/2 the number of residents as of 40 years ago and it has a major impact on the economy of the area. Let's bring people to our loving and colorful neighborhood! I suggest to allow the plan forward or allow the developer to modify the proposal with the community suggestions on optimal land use.

Politics have no place here. Better residential and community housing is key to a sustainable and welcoming neighborhood.

This development will greatly help revitalize the Pilsen area and draw more business and money to our neighborhood.

Agreed Kerl! There's a lot of work/listening to be done when it comes to having the support of our neighbors in Pilsen. I do think we should specifically support PMG in their purchase of the property. I also hope the 21% of affordable housing gets reexamined as I personally believe that to be too high. There are other brand new buildings going up that will be affordable housing, there are options for those who need it. This lot should be more for middle to upper class. Overall get the density up and build more retail over here. I would love to not have to go away from home to spend my money.

These piles of dirt have been around for over a decade. The discontinuity on 18th St. between Sangamon and Halsted is what keeps the vibrancy of 18th from becoming a great commercial street, tying Halsted to the remainder of the energy of 18th at Morgan and further west. We need people, living here, and spending their money here.

Thanks Kerl! Despite the vocal resistance, we know that plenty of other folks in Pilsen are actually supportive of development. We'll work to get their signatures on this petition.

We are well aware that the Developer "PMG" is currently proceeding with the 1350 S. Union project and is on contract to purchase this vacant property on Union. Lets petition directly to support PMG in their private endeavors as they negotiate with the Alderman and City. Our good faith effort to identify the surrounding neighborhood support is important. Knowingly the neighbors to the south in Pilsen have long been against the density proposed on 16th/Peoria for almost a decade. Their support is also KEY and extremely pivotal. Keeping fingers crossed for development soon.

University Village Business District (Roosevelt to 16th, Morgan to Union) has a 28% vacancy rate. Halsted st (south of UV) is not doing well either. One of the causes of high vacancy rate is lack of density, which doesn’t bring enough revenue to cover high rental cost. Roosevelt square is moving forward, which should bring much needed middle class purchasing power to an area vastly occupied by low to no income residents. Our community schools are struggling because of low enrollment, our city is drowning in debt, our local businesses are failing. More residents will bring much needed purchasing power, tax base, and new students for our schools. A SMART development of these two lots will be crucial for the improvement of our community and for the growth of our investment. I support a residential development as long as residents and stakeholders are involved in the planning.
