Hello everyone,
Andrew Lane and I (Matt Kelly) would like to start a Construction Law Society at Detroit Mercy Law that will work in conjunction with the Windsor Law Construction Club. Professor Troy Harris has agreed to be our faculty sponsor/mentor as we embark on this project. The primary focus of this club is to host a variety of events for students/faculty interested in all aspects of construction law. The topics will range from civil construction to real estate/related fields. Our goal is to showcase the variety of different aspects of legal work and issues that arise through the course of construction/infrastructure projects. We plan to host a number of events/panels on these various issues that will incorporate both legal and business experts in these fields. We require 25 signatures (we would welcome more) so we can begin the process of getting our student organization started at UDM Law.

Andrew and I have been busy coordinating with Professor Harris to map out our first few panel topics. The conversations we are having with practitioners in the field confirm just how much interest there is in bringing this specialized focus to our law school.

Seeing this level of enthusiasm from my fellow students confirms that there is a real hunger for more specialized expertise in our building and development industries. Andrew and I are genuinely moved by how quickly this community has rallied behind the idea of bridging our law school with the practitioners in the field.
