We urge you to support the destruction of psychiatric records and psychological folders that are retained by some nonprofit agenices, school districts and special and/or private schools after a given number of years. The existence of such records casts a harmful shadow over people. In this era of Freedom of Information, many believe that all persons are entitled to access of any information concerning themselves. Please assist us in these efforts. Many of your constitutents have very strong feelings about this and think that retention of such records does not come to any good. In fact, in many cases such records have caused great and needless harm. As champions of Freedom of Information and Human Rights, many are seeking help and support in this matter. It is very important to many people that all persons are given the option to have their records destroyed after said records have been allowed to exist for a given number of years. Once a person reaches adulthood and is no longer in need of educational/therapeutic services from their respective school and/or school district, many feel it is only timely and proper to allow each person that option to have their records destroyed. An additional concern is that these records will exist long after the death of the clients in question and this could harm the reputations of the clients in question.
