The science of designing a baby has gone too far over the years. The chance of parents being able to design children based on their physical appearance is not ethical, and the medical community should end this possible disaster.

Various researchers have found that this science is unethical and unnecessary for our future as a species. In a recent article, Russell Powell speaks of the necessary need for environmental buffers that act as a natural source of selection of genes to allow a species to accommodate to a certain habitat. His research includes that by altering the selection process of genetics, we are controlling what is supposed to be natural and going against what is a human’s job, which is to be genetically different. Later, Ian Brassington states in a journal on bioethics, that “If characteristically human traits are the mark by which we are to understand what an enhancement is, there is no need for us to enhance evolution: natural selection has already made us as characteristically human as we ever could be”. And last lastly, In the past, many occurrences of tried eugenics has occurred and failed. For example, in former Soviet Russia during the 1900’s, Joseph Stalin and many of his medical confidants pushed for the application of eugenics to assist in the prevention of inheritable disease. Nikolai Krenmetsov from the University of Toronto wrote in a recent article about the history of eugenics in Russia and the Soviet Union that the USSR displayed that they wanted to displace the prior notion of how to have a child, and replace the love with medicine. This action would include inseminating females with the sperm of “recommended” men that were fertile enough to breed 1000 children, and to complete remove the relationship aspect between man and woman. With all of the research backing this claim, we as a society need to do all that we can to prevent this science from creating any life changing issues in the future.
