As residents of Des Peres, MO, we are OPPOSED to Bill 16-2793 changing the start time of construction from 8am to 7am Monday through Saturday (Labor Day to Memorial Day).
Concerns include but are not limited to:
- Current Des Peres ordinances preclude the start of construction prior to 8am to regulate disturbance and enable children to safely walk to neighborhood schools.
- Residential neighborhoods in Des Peres experience an extensive amount of infill housing, generating heavy traffic / congested streets due to numerous contractor and construction vehicles and heavy equipment trucks.
- Narrow streets and the absence of sidewalks put children at greater risk.
- Contractors already arrive earlier than the current 8am start time to residential construction sites, often in violation of the existing code. There is a need for greater enforcement of the existing ordinance vs. moving the start time to 7am which would result in even earlier arrival times ie. the 6:00 hour.
The Board of Aldermen who serves Des Peres must prioritize citizen safety over builder convenience. Vote NO on Bill 16-2793 at the Nov. 14th Board of Aldermen Meeting.

Seeing this level of support confirms that I am not the only one exhausted by the noise and traffic in our streets. This momentum proves that people are watching and we will not be quiet while our mornings are disrupted.

Authorizing a 7AM construction start-time would be absurd. It CLEARLY endangers our Bayberry children as they walk to school. Remember, we have no sidewalks. I strain to understand how this could even be considered. If anything, we need to crack down on the crews that are ignoring the rules in place.
Enough! The traffic of heavy equipment on our streets is ridiculous! Every day I see another mailbox destroyed. I worked construction and I know time is everything. I also know the saying " Can't see it from my house". This is what I would hear when builders broke, ruined or ran over something in a neighborhood. Keep the time 8am. So we can get our kids to school and to our jobs on time and in some peace, Not fighting traffic in our neighborhood. Thank you
I am opposed to the earlier start time. I believe it poses a danger to the children and residents of our neighborhood walking to the area schools. The workers are already showing up earlier than the posted start time. I passed no fewer than 12 workers trucks, while driving my son to the high school at 7:30 am. The majority of the workers are out of the neighborhood by 3pm, so I do not see Day Light Savings as a viable excuse for an earlier start. The current 8am start time needs to be enforced.
Two of our boys ride their bikes to NKMS every morning at 740. It is bad enough that even at that time streets are already full of construction vehicles, landscapers etc. PLEASE consider the safety of the children and families in Harwood Hills BEFORE the convenience of the builders. It is not the fault of the neighborhood residents that workers have long drives and don't want to sit in traffic. Thank you!
Please consider the safety of all of your residents, who you are charged with representing, and vote NO to changing the ordinance, and not the specific profitability targets of businesses who have chosen to operate in our city. Keep Des Peres a Family-focused community
People with insomnia treasure every minute they get to sleep. Starting construction an hour earlier will deprive people with insomnia of a valuable hour of sleep. Furthermore, that potentiates all sorts of diseases (e.g. heart disease, depression, dementia) and decreases concentration, making driving less safe.
KEEP THE CONSTRUCTION TIME TO 8PM!!!!!!

Construction people are starting before 8:00 already. If they change the ordinance to 7:00, then they'll start chipping away at an earlier time again. PLEASE leave it at 8:00 for the safety of everyone, but especially the kids!
