Derek has gone above and beyond his duties as President of the Marist Band for the past two years. Derek has revamped the organization of the band's operations (I'm sure you've seen his excel sheets), has promoted leadership in numerous ways, and has prepared younger members to keep the band running with high expectations.

Derek has been instrumental in bring the band program to the next level. Under his leadership he has ran the band for 2 amazing years as president especially by creating the Drill Assistant position to greatly improve the marching band.

As his Vice President for 2 years straight, there is no person that cares about the organization just like Derek. Staying up to the late hours of the night and getting to the building as early as some of the office workers, Derek put everything he could into this organizations, making it run more effectively, increasing open dialogue to the general members, and fostering ideas to make the general member feel welcome and wanted in this organization. The band could not have run as smoothly as it did and I have not seen a more dedicated person throughout my career here. Creating social projects, incorporating the fraternity and sorority to help his ideas, and making the e-board function smoothly and efficiently are just some of the thousands of reasons why Derek wholeheartedly deserves this award.

Derek Daffara has dedicated countless hours of time, energy, and love for the Marist Band. He has gone early and stayed late to every rehearsal and event to ensure that things run as smoothly as possible for the rest of the eboard and general members. He has stayed committed to the program when he started as a Freshman and wanted to make it as successful as he could make it. When reading the description and requirements for receiving this award, I could only think of Derek and his contributions.

Derek has shown me truly what it means to be dedicated to the band. From day one he has made me feel welcomed and made band the most enjoyable part of my college experience. He has worked towards getting the band sponsored. If you look at anything the band has accomplished it is almost certain that Derek is the driving force behind it. There is no one more deserving of this award.

Even though I'm only a Freshman, Derek has made the band such a warm and welcoming group. No matter what it is, Derek will always be there to answer any questions, help you through a struggle, or just give you a little laugh when you've had a bad day. He is an all around great individual and has done the best possible job that I think anyone can. His leadership and dedication exceed what I had ever expected and I thank him for making the band what it is today.

I can't think of someone who loves the band and works as hard as Derek does.
