January 12, 2011 State of Mississippi Parole Board 660 North Street Suite 100A Jackson, MS 39202 RE: Inmate #75732 Mississippi Parole Board: In the strongest terms possible, we the people of Newton and surrounding counties wish to express our objections to the parole of Ken (KC) Strickland from confinement of prison. Ken Strickland and co-defendant David Duplantis escaped jail then, committed a heinous crime of beating Gary Thrash to death with a pair of bolt cutters then stole his truck and escaped to Tennessee where they kidnapped a man and had a car chase with the authorities before being arrested. Ken Strickland was found guilty of capital murder. The jury voted 11-1 to give him the death penalty. Since the one person would not vote for the death penalty, the court had to go to the next sentencing option. At the time of the trial, life without parole was not a sentencing option because his juvenile record couldn’t be used against him. Therefore he was given the sentence of Life in prison with the possibility of parole. Strickland has never showed any remorse for any crime he has committed as an adult or as a juvenile. We believe that if he is paroled, he will continue with his criminal activity. We also, feel he will be a threat to our county and especially the community in which he chooses to reside in. He has already shown how dangerous and violent he can be and what a threat he is to society. These crimes alone should be enough to show he deserves to serve the rest of his life sentence in its entirety in the confinement of prison. Please DENY parole to Ken Strickland inmate # 75732.
