This petition is for the demolition of the Barry Jackson Tower on Estone Walk in Aston, Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Birmingham City Council initially proposed to demolish the tower due to it being unsafe for habitation.
However, it has recently come to light that the Council has changed this decision and have instead chosen to use the tower as "temporary accommodation".
The Council came to this decision without prior consultation with local residents about their new plans for the tower.
The Aston area is already stigmatised for being run down and influenced by drugs and crime.
We understand the Council's responsibility to rehouse vulnerable people; however, we, the local community feel that Aston is under enough pressure to cope with the Council's new plans.We fear for the welfare of our community with the presence of this tower and would like to see that the council demolishes the Barry Jackson Tower.

The lack of response from the Council continues to be frustrating but it confirms that we are making them uncomfortable. I am exhausted by the silence yet we cannot afford to look away while they gamble with the future of our neighborhood.

Reaching this level of support feels heavy because it confirms so many of us are exhausted by the council ignoring our neighborhood. I am tired of the constant fighting but seeing this momentum reminds me why we cannot back down now.

My mom has lived in this area for over 30years, I come every day and my children attend the local school. The building needs to be demolished as planned originally. This is a safe community at the moment and I'm afraid this will change. I oppose this plan.
Aston, already having soo much crime and drug related issues. we do not need more. the tower in built near the schools - does this mean we will need to increase security in schools - as i would feel unsafe sending my kids the the school
I lived in this hell hole on 16th floor for 15 years. My daughter once nearly fell out of the window. Get rid I say....well over due !!!
Having this building used for temporary accommodation is not a good idea. It mean that pepole from all walk of life and background will be living there. The area is rebuilding after the tower was emptied and also the removal of other tower blocks nearby. The only thing to finally give the area another face lift is to remove the tower as planned since the previous residents was rehoused.
We are already a deprived area with enough hostels. We were just rebuilding our community only to be abused and ignored by Birmingham City Council!!!!

Get rid, blooming eye sore. Its nothing but trouble. Council seem to have forgotten about the feelings of local residents. Life isnt always about budgets and targets. What about the councils social responsibility towards local residents. We have a voice, its about time they heard it. Down with the tower !
