We, students of IIT (BHU) Varanasi and concerned citizens, are deeply disturbed by the violent clash on 1st September between BHU (Birla hostel) students and IIT students near Birla area. This has created serious fear and insecurity on campus. IIT (BHU) is a national institute where students come from all over India, but repeated attacks by BHU groups have left us feeling unsafe and ignored.
We request urgent action from Government of India and the Honourable Prime Minister:
1. Stronger security inside and around IIT BHU, especially Birla side.
2. Strict punishment to those responsible for violence and intimidation.
3. Permanent deployment of adequate police/security forces.
4. Direct coordination between IIT BHU admin, district officials, and student reps to ensure protection.
Unlike other IITs with secure closed campuses, IIT (BHU) is open and vulnerable. On 1st September 2025, three IIT students were brutally beaten by BHU Birla hostel students for only walking past their road. Even more shocking, many Birla students openly carry guns, swords and other weapons, creating an atmosphere of terror. This is not new – since 2023, repeated group assaults by BHU students have shown a clear pattern of hostility. Students going late to labs or library constantly face threats of harassment and violence.
This problem is unique to IIT (BHU). Other IITs enjoy closed and completely secure campuses, but here we are exposed to outsiders with weapons. We strongly appeal that IIT (BHU) must also get the same safety – closed campus, outsider restriction, and strict permanent security.
Our humble but urgent call: please act immediately to secure IIT (BHU), end the menace of BHU outsiders, and guarantee the safety and dignity of students. IITs are pillars of India’s growth, but we cannot build the future of the nation while living in fear of violence and weapons.

Why students don't feel safe even inside the campus of IIT. Strict actions must be taken against this.
