The court house is in bad need of repair. I say take the men in jail and put them to work repairing the court house. Let the women in jail pick up the paper on the highway. Look at all the free labor we would have the court house needs to come first. I love our court house.

Please do not let this beautiful and historical courthouse continue to fall into ruin. My fourth Great Grandfather, John Adam Shows, American Revolutionary Patriot, has his name inscribed in marble in the foyer. My family name is forever associated with this building, so please restore it. I will gladly contribute, just begin immediately!

I was born in Jones County on Aug 22, 1951. I grew up on my mothers family land, TF and Mattie Williams, on Sharon Road starting at the end of the Laurel City Limits on 5th Avenue. My Parents were Jessie Bryant and Donna Mae (Williams) Moss. My Great-Great Grandfather, Bingaman Moss founded Moss, MS. I Graduated from West Jones High School in 1970 and in 1971 moved to Baton Rouge, LA where I worked for 44 years at Allied Chemical, Arcadian Corporation, PCS Nitrogen a Division of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, Canada. Being the County Seat of Jones County the ELLISVILLE COURTHOUSE Should be Restored. I was an Extra in the Movies "Free State of Jones" Starring Matthew McConaughey. Acting the part of Newt Knight who was killed based on the Book THE FREE STATE OF JONES written by VICTORIA BYNUM. In August 1863, Confederate Major Amos McLemore was sent to round up the deserters. However, on October 5, 1863, McLemore was shot and killed in the home of Amos Deason in Ellisville, Mississippi. Most people believed that the man who pulled the trigger was Newt Knight. Today the Amos Deason house is said to be haunted. In 1951, local historian Ethel Knight, author of Echo of the Black Horn, wrote that on each anniversary of McLemore’s murder, at 11:00 p.m., “the door to the doorway in which Newt Knight stood swings open and promptly closes, as if by an unseen hand.”
