Demand that we support an end to racism and white supremacy by voting on the 8th UU Principle
The 8th Principle has been authored by the group, Black Lives of UU (BLUU) and is advocating for its formal adoption “articulating a commitment to the dismantling of white supremacy within the state principles of our faith.”
And our Board decided to *not* bring it up for discussion and a vote.
Once again, we are seeing white people deciding that ‘now is not the time’ to deal with the issues of racism and white supremacy. When will white America ever learn?!
I am encouraging all members of our congregation to support this petition to our Board which requests that a discussion and vote at our Annual Meeting proceed. And that we join in solidarity with other UU congregations around the country and especially in solidarity with our UU People of Color.
Let’s follow the lead of John Lewis who said “If not us, then who? If not now, then when?” Let’s add our collective UUUtica voice to those around the country who are affirming the 8th Principle right now.
