Please could the media stop repeating Hamas casualty statistics which have been proven to be false. The official casualty numbers often cited in the media are derived from the Gazan Ministry of Health, which is run by Hamas, and include everyone who has died in Gaza since the war even if they died from unrelated causes, and some deaths have been counted multiple times, as these online articles prove:

However, even if the stats were true, according to the UKLI, 13,000 Palestinian combatants had been killed by the end of February 2024, meaning that the ratio of civilian-to-combatant death rate is less than 1.5:1. This ratio is much lower than the usual ratio of civilian-to-combatant casualties in urban warfare, as indicated by a report by the UN Secretary General which found that in urban armed conflicts worldwide, 89 per cent of the casualties were civilians.

Some media sources seem to have forgotten that there is still war in Israel. Israel has had almost 700,000 rockets and countless drones directed at it since Hamas started the war, and 70,000 people from Northern Israel are homeless thanks to raging fires caused by constant rocket attacks that have decimated almost 3000 acres of land. According to the Meir Panim charity, the war has also caused 2.5 million people in Israel to live under the poverty line. Israel also has to endure 2000 terror attacks each year because of the Palestinian Martyrs Fund, in which the Palestinian government donates cash payments to people who carry out terror attacks on Israeli civilians, as stated in an online article from the New York Post entitled Pay To Slay is the True Face of the Peace Process for Israelis and Palestinians.

Hamas are the ones committing war crimes because they specifically use schools and hospitals as military bases to fire rockets from because they know that when the media report that a school or hospital has been targeted in response, Hamas win a propaganda victory. This encourages Hamas to continue to set up command centres in these places. Hamas built schools, hospitals and mosques over the terror tunnel entrances to purposely disguise them as humanitarian sites which should not be bombed, ensuring that, should Israel bomb them or shoot down rockets being launched from these places, it would be labelled as a war crime and Israel would be subject to harsh measures by the UN, the ICC and the EU. The Geneva Protocols state that hospitals and other medical units exclusively assigned to medical purposes must be respected and protected in all circumstances. However, they lose their protection if they are being used, outside their humanitarian function, to commit acts harmful to the enemy. When the IDF raids schools being used as weapons stores and command centres, they time the raids to occur during the night, when no children will be present.
