Demand Grandfathering Provisions for Licensed Professional Counselors

Please grandfather LPCs in the VA Systems.

I agree that inclusion of a grandfathering clause is overly restrictive and does indeed cause discriminatory outcomes for qualified professionals.

The need to include "grandparenting" should not be solely extended to counselors with a long work history. The Counsel on Rehabilitation Education has a strong educational model that with minimal additional coursework conforms to all coursework required by state licensing boards. Students graduating from programs accredited by such an organization should not be discounted by current legislation or by the inclusion of "grandparenting" clauses. These clauses should extend to students who graduate from any accredited program that offers coursework that meets current licensing requirements for up to three years, or the time it takes them to complete coursework began before the passage of legislation limiting entry to the field.

Way to go Goycohea. While asking someone to do something they don't have to do it is always a good practice to call their proposed ideas "ridiculous", "stupid" and "illogical". To also call them "messed up" and "promoting terrible employees" just adds to their desire to help you out. Either you are brand new to the world of business or have led a life of combatitive relationships. Since CACREP did not exist was not geographically accessible to many Licensed Professional Counselors at the time of their graduate studies, you risk losing some great LPCs who are veterans wanting to servie veterans! Grandfather in currently licensed LPCs regardless of where they graduated from!

A period of grandfathering for masters students in counseling who have just graduated and long-time LPCs seems reasonable and appropriate, as credentialing organizations, accreditation organizations, and state license boards have done--in the interest of fairness.

This 'rule' / 'requirement' is very ridicules and eliminates qualified people from advancing in federal government. Change this stupid, illogical rule for Pete's sake. That's why the VA is so messed up...promoting terrible employees and make good employees run for their lives.

I am one of those counselors who is a Veteran! My whole purpose in doing this was to better serve the community I've grown up in and now I can't without jumping through unnecessary hoops.

I am an LPC, LADC with 17 years of experience in the field. My school was soon accredited after I graduated. Therefore, I attended to the required curriculum and yet am not recognized as such.

I support the grandfather clause!

My husband and I are both retired Air Force. I started my Master's program while still active duty. I retired so my husband could take a command position. At our new assignment, the university near the base "Auburn" was not CACREP at the time I graduated. Today, I'm in private practice and a Tricare provider. Therefore, I provide therapy for our National Guard, Reservists and Active Duty. Ironically, I can't see Veterans at the VA, or be accepted in the program that is referring Vets to outside agencies! After I graduated, I worked at a program director in the Mental Health clinic, but couldn't not provide therapy. Yet, a "green" 24 year-old Social Worker, with absolutely no idea of military culture or protocol could see our military. Needless to say, I didn't stay there long because I couldn't stomach the incompetence provided to our military.

LPCs are well qualified to serve Veterans. I am a veteran of the OEF/OIF conflict and pursued my LPC to be able to serve my fellow veterans.
