This is a call for tougher penalties and adequate rehabillitation for sex offenders and rapists; where economic status is not a factor in deciding the course of justice.

For too long, sex offenders and rapists have avoided the course of justice due to their ability to exchange payment for shorter sentences.

This is evident in the Anthony Lyons case where he was ordered to pay the victim a large sum of money (€75,000) in exchange for a suspended sentence of only 6 months.

Another case would be the recent case of Graham Griffiths who was ordered to pay €15,000 in order to avoid jail time. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2012/1018/1224325414489.html

(these are to only name a few)

ARE WE GOING TO ALLOW OUR SEXUAL SAFETY TO BE MARKETED AND SOLD LIKE THIS IS THE COURTROOM OF PATRIARCHY AND WEALTH?

This is a call for tougher penalties and adequate rehabillitation for sex offenders and rapists, where economic status is not a factor in deciding the course of justice.

Make a stand.

If this petition reaches its target number, it will be taken to justice minister and the judges involved in the above and similar cases.
