Resident Statement Regarding Prolonged Security Concerns and Safety Conditions at Victor Prosper
Residents of Victor Prosper are raising serious concerns regarding recent safety issues following a series of disturbing incidents over the past several months.
This statement is intended to support residents seeking clarity regarding their rights and options in response to ongoing security concerns. Residents who, in good faith, pursue lawful remedies related to their safety should not face avoidance, discouragement, penalties, or discriminatory treatment.
Residents report that unhoused individuals were living and sleeping in the hallways for extended periods, which many felt reflected a significant failure of building security and left residents feeling unsafe within their own homes. Despite representations of a robust security system, residents observed that these measures appeared insufficient in practice, relying primarily on unmanned cameras without consistent, active, on-site enforcement over extended periods.
Accordingly, we require a direct answer to the following:
Are the security cameras currently being actively monitored in real time? Are they manned? Is there live oversight securing all access points and common areas of the building at this time?
During these incidents, it also became apparent that intruders may have sought informal or off-record arrangements to remain inside the building while staying largely under the radar. When residents have requested management’s formal position on this concern, the issue has been deflected or left unaddressed.
The lack of timely and decisive action—including the absence of the property director for nearly two weeks during a critical period—significantly compounded the situation.
These events have caused substantial distress among residents, reviving past trauma and disrupting the sense of safety, privacy, and stability that influenced our decision to reside here.
We also pay a substantial amount in rent and associated fees to live in this community. It is deeply concerning that the visible investment appears concentrated on aesthetic and decorative elements rather than meaningful, proactive security measures—particularly given the building’s location in a densely active area.
We are further concerned that, absent collective action, incidents may continue to be addressed through standardized, procedural responses rather than substantive correction—leaving residents repeatedly exposed to preventable risks.
Accordingly, we demand:
- Immediate and meaningful improvements to building security
- Clear confirmation of whether security systems are actively monitored and enforced
- Transparent accountability regarding prior security failures
- A full explanation as to how unauthorized individuals were permitted repeated access to our hallways for months without effective corrective action
- Written assurance that no resident pursuing lease termination under these conditions will face retaliation, obstruction, or discriminatory treatment
These issues must be addressed now to ensure that no resident is left feeling trapped in fear and that this pattern of dangerous complacency ends permanently.
