Save the Delta Queen
The riverboat Delta Queen is a unique and irreplaceable gem of Americana, built to state-of-the-art design in 1926. Because she has a wooden superstructure and carries more than fifty overnight passengers, Delta Queen is in violation of the newer 1966 Safety at Sea Act. Nine times she has received exemption but may not receive a tenth. The Delta Queen should be allowed to continue plying the inland waters of America. We would all be the poorer without her enchanting calliope echoing off the bluffs of Minnesota when she steams into our river towns as she has for over eighty years. The Delta Queen is a traveling historic treasure hearkening back to a bygone era. To secure her for our future the Delta Queen deserves a Presidential Pardon. We citizens of the State of Minnesota, at the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River, sign this petition of our own free will.
