As a healthcare worker I am acutely aware of the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation that we are saddled with. While balancing the need for safety promotion and viral control is absolutely necessary for a time, the situation remains extremely fluid. We have time to consider hundreds of options to provide closure for our spring season high school athletes. We can model creativity, resilience, determination, vision and responsibility for our youth with a sound initiative. This is not professional or college athletics that require extreme budgets, travel and logistics. The current restrictions are changing on a very regular basis and in the coming weeks we may very well be able to safely and responsibly provide some degree of spring athletics. Keep the discussion open, be creative, model resilience and responsibility - even though it may not represent the easy path please remember that doing the RIGHT thing rarely does. Remember we are America we do hard things everyday and this is our opportunity to train the next generation with that mindset.

They have worked so hard to get this far and we cannot take the season from them like this. There has to be a way to make this work and still be safe.

My son was injured the past two years and unable to play soccer. He was finally able to try out and make the team and then the season was cancelled due to this pandemic. It was absolutely devastating! I really feel like it could benefit these athletes TREMENDOUSLY to be able to play their sports this season. Most athletes need activity and that’s why they have been involved in sports. Being confined to homes and away from teammates has to be particularly hard on these kids. If there is any way to salvage a sports season, please do it!!

Please reconsider this decision to cancel sports-this is a FINAL decision you’ve made on these kids based on old information. They can play and do so healthily.
Thank you

Don’t make decision yet. Kids still going to school electronically. Comeback begins with little league and high school with no fans before pro leagues.
