Women deserve a shelter apart from biological males. By cutting this funding women are being put at risk. That is indefensible and disgusting.

Our rights were so hard to achieve. Don't take them away. Sex is immutable and a man cannot be a woman. Give trans people their own spaces but don't take away women's.

Unbelievable that anyone cannot understand the need for women only spaces where rape and sexual abuse is concerned.

I live in Seattle and visit British Columbia regularly. It is very distressing to hear of the growing misogynisitc policies of the goverment and the erasure of women's rights. It makes me, just as a visitor, feel less safe. My heart really goes out to the women and girls who live there. I worked in and with domestic violence shelters and sexual assualt victim programs for years. Male, regardless of how those males idenitfy, free spaces are imperative for female victims of male violence to begin to heal from trauma. Erasing those spaces by even allowing one person who was born male is an overt attack on women. It negates healing and either demonstrates absolutely no understanding of what it means to actually be a woman, or it simply an act of overt hatred toward women.

What happened there is an "if I can't have it, nobody can!" kind of deal. Women in need don't deserve to be abandoned because an institution made for females decided to say no to males. It's wrong. It's morally wrong.

Women's rights are under attack by harmful gender ideology. Male violence doesn't change with clothes

Men are adult human males. Women are adult human females. Belief doesn't change reality.

How is it that women’s and girls’ sex-based rights and protections are being stripped at the behest of men?! How is it that men are deciding what women may call themselves?

the first women's shelters were conceived by women, built by women, and fundraised by women. THEN government saw a need for them and started contributing. We are now in a situation where the very foundations of women's shelters are being attacked. Will we be kicked out of our own charities? will we have to rebuild? again?

A person who’s goal is to defund women’s shelters should not have even been considered for this, let alone chosen. I think it is also worth noting that Oger mocked a survivor of FGM on Twitter. Is this really the kind of person that should be representing women?

Women need spaces to talk about our experiences and to build strength. Males in our spaces are harming our ability to use the language that describes us, to have privacy and dignity, and to oppose the takeover by males in sport, Healthcare, awards and scholarships reserved for women and girls, our bathrooms and changerooms. Enough.
