regrettable situation

UCL has shocked me by its practices from the start. Coming from what society would deem a highly disadvantaged background has meant I've had to witness the universities lack of provisions for people not from a 'normal' background, a total lack of understanding that for some people, money IS something you have to think about and sometimes your life can be on the cusp of ruin because of it.

I think that the conduct of UCL senior management team should be investigated.

Aside from everything else, isn't Becky is the exact kind of independent, intelligent and principled student that UCL exists to support and nurture?!

I have no idea why UCL think that freedom of speech doesn't extend to Ms Pinnington. I support her completely.

Becky should not have been threatened. What ucl did was wrong plain and simple. It is worrying that if she had not spoken up ucl would have been able to get away with their bad mistakes.

Good for you Rebecca - there is a place for investigative journalism in every great institution. Hope you get a decent apology for the daft letter.

Does a further comment really need to be made? I think it's blindingly obvious what is going on.

Three questions for UCL 1. If, as is stated in the independent, this information was obtained as a result of secuirty issues with a UCL executive's outlook calender, why is the focus on Ms Pinnington's actions & not on UCL's own systems & staff usage of them? 2. If UCL has nothing to hide, why should these figures be hidden? 3. If UCL insists on keeping its accounting confidential, how can students & staff have confidence that funds are being appropriately managed?

UCL management should read Jeremy Bentham's 'On the Liberty of the Press, and Public Discussion'.

On the face of it, Rebecca Pinnigton's actions seem better to correspond to UCL ethos of critical engagement with contemporary social issues than those of 'management' threatening exclusion from the University.
