We oppose the proposed text amendment to allow a special use for a for-profit commercial business at 445 Pine Street. Permitting a for-profit commercial business to operate in a zoned residential neighborhood will drastically and irreparably change the character of the neighborhood. It will also set a dangerous precedent for future requests to locate businesses in this and other residential neighborhoods in Deerfield. The proposed use will increase traffic on an already busy residential street, cause more congestion throughout the day, and pose safety hazards to children, adults and pets. We strongly encourage the Village Board of Trustees to protect our neighborhoods by denying the proposed text amendment and special use.
