I am surprised and disappointed to hear the work continues even after inspectors have shown air quality is unsafe in some classrooms. How is that not enough to postpone the work to a time when children and staff won't be present?

A teacher informed me the roof leak was discovered in June. Why was the work delayed until October when kids, teachers and staff were on site? Why isn't there a bigger work crew to speed up the job? This is our administration's opportunity to step up, show leadership and create positive outcomes. At a minimum this work should be done during non-school hours with a larger crew.

I found myself feeling sick just by spending minimal time in and around the school. I am now seriously concerned for my son's health at Deer Park School

Why the roof project wasn't done during g summer when there was no children at school? My son is very sensitive to scents and it is hard for him to be around this smell. I understand the urgency of this project because of roof leaks, but if it is urgent the work should be speed up on weekends or evenings.

I just updated the petition to be relevant to asphalt being applied to the roof, not tar.

These fumes made me, an adult, feel sick in less than 30 min of being exposed to them inside the school. My daughter complained of headache, nose and throat irritation and nausea & tummy ache after she spent 6 hours at school while the roof work was being conducted. We pulled our daughter from the school after that incident until the work is finished.

I would like to know who made the decision to tar the roof during the school year? Would the staff & students not be better served by planning for this endeavour in the summer months, or at least wait until the March break? If roof leaks are happening now, surely temporary measures could be undertaken now in order to prevent exposing our children to harmful fumes for an extended period. I would really like to know who made this decision to tar now and why that decision was made.

We have already pulled our daughter out of school until the project is complete. Not risking our child's health and well being. This form of work should most definately be conducted during off hours not when children and staff are in class where fumes are most harmful.
