Decriminalization of recreational marijuana
The prevalence of mental illness has begun to run rampant through Utah. From February 1 to 13, 2023, 33.3% of adults in Utah reported symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder, compared to 32.3% of adults in the U.S. Substance abuse and overdoses are also increasing and while white people primarily hold the highest rate of overdoses people of color are quickly taking their share of loss. Opioid overdoses have also become a bigger and bigger problem. In 2021, there were 446 opioid overdose deaths in Utah, which accounted for 67% of all drug overdose deaths in the state. Across the U.S., opioid overdose deaths accounted for 75% of all drug overdose deaths in the country in 2021. And a solution can be recreational marijuana because marijuana has been proven to reduce anxiety and depression and can lead to a positive side effects.
