Connecticut children need this legislation. I have been struggling with dyslexia my whole life - I thought I was dumb. I am 72 years old. My grandson has been diagnosed with dyslexia and I want him to have a chance to change his life.

My son is 7 years old and is diagnosed with Dyslexia. I'm fighting with the school to provide a trained teacher to teach him to read. Their lawyer responded there is no law to say we have too! Please sign this petition and change this so thousands of children are no longer denied the education they deserve!

I am a parent of a child with dyslexia who has suffered for years because of the lack of aid offered in public school. We need to improve the situation and create an atmosphere of learning for all students.

We need special magnet schools to help our children. I shouldn't need to sue our school district so my child can learn to read.

Having 1 child with Dyslexia through the educational systems in Illinois and Connecticut and trying to coach another through various school systems in CT, This is an absolutely desperately needed process. Dyslexia runs in our family with at least 5 generations being affected. My Dyslexia was significant enough that my mother, who was already a public school teacher, became a reading specialist and expert tester for a variety of Dyslexic praxis. Even with all of this knowledge and having used both the existing CT code and relative current research on the most recent means of accommodating and or dealing with Dyslexia, we have still met every roadblock imaginable, at every school, every year.

I have been fighting this fight for since my child was in Kindergarten. She is now in the 8th grade. She was FINALLY just diagnosed. I wholeheartedly agree with this grassroots movement! My thanks to everyone that has signed this petition!

Those gifted with dyslexia deserve better. Getting the help they need should not be a battle with the schools. Early identification and early intervention will go a long way to successful futures for these bright kids.

As a retired special education teacher, it's about time for CT to provide early screening and research-based interventions for these bright, yet forgotten, students. I'm not sure the current State Department of Ed, headed by a non-educator, will properly address this issue. Keep fighting! You're in great hands with Drs. Shaywitz.

I had the same experience I push for diagnoses. They just wanted to hold her back

Our entire society NEEDS this legislation! A fifth of our population can not learn how to read the way teachers currently teach them.We would be saving not only individuals self-esteem but the high probability that non-readers will seek deviant behaviors and habits to offset their sense of failure because of their undiagnosed hardship. According to statistics, most prisoners in our penitentiaries can not read at an acceptable age level. Early intervention is the key to a more promising life in this society.

This is very much need including awareness in underrepresented communities.
