Parents need help. The schools need to stop pushing this issue down the road. My daughter has been in the special education system for 3+ years and they refuse to test her.

We need to spread the word before too many other students with Dyslexia are slipping through the cracks, being bullied by other students as well as teachers, and trying to fit into a system that just does't work for them

Dysexia is one of the oldest known learning disabilities out there. Dysexia began as word blindness and through subsequent research through observation (Orton) to fMRI (Shaywitz) we know more about this condition than ever. Yet, our schools function as though word blindness is all there is to this condition. This condition affects more people than previously thought and it is more prevalent than previously thought. It is time for the schools, on aall of its levels, to merge the science and research of dyslexia to practica application.

Children need early identification and early intervention by qualified educators. I support the need for schools to take the lead on understanding the needs of children in their care and developing the skills of educators, as well as providing them with evidence-based resources to deliver effective intervention. Nothing less than the future rides on the capacity of our children to learn and to lead. DCR

Back in the 50's and 60's when no one even knew what dyslexia was, my brother spend all of his school years in the "dumb" group....that's what they called it then. A wiz at math, but reading, english, spelling; forget it. He wasn't dumb at all; just dyslexic.

We need this desperately. The current situation is a complete failure. Its time that we give these smart kids the tools that they deserve.

lets help our kids! I have been fighting my school system to help my 8 yr old son for over a year and I am so outraged that it has been like this thus far. public schools place these kids in a severe decoding intervention program and pass the no child left behind law so the kids just get strung along and the state doesnt have to shell out the $$$$$$.

Dyslexia is real. Research and a science supports it, school should as well. You wouldn't deny a blind kid Braille, and tell him to look harder….

the education system in CT needs to move away from the Reader's Workshop model promulgated by Teacher's College and move towards a Phonics-based model of Reading instruction.
