My son is 8 and he struggles everyday with having dyslexia and there is not much extra help he gets. He gets very frustrated and says no one in school understands him it is very sad and there needs to be more put in place to help kids with dyslexia.
Connecticut children need this legislation. I have been struggling with dyslexia my whole life - I thought I was dumb. I am 72 years old. My grandson has been diagnosed with dyslexia and I want him to have a chance to change his life.
I have been fighting this fight for since my child was in Kindergarten. She is now in the 8th grade. She was FINALLY just diagnosed. I wholeheartedly agree with this grassroots movement! My thanks to everyone that has signed this petition!
As a retired special education teacher, I have observed many cases of children that were diagnosed learning disabled, intellectually disabled or not eligible for services due to dyslexia not being able to be identified as the needed intervention.
I was told by my special education teacher that I was not dyslexic...I was in a Yale study for children with dyslexia. After graduating high school my aunt who is a special education teacher looked at me and called me cured. THE MISS INFORMATION NEEDS TO END.
Don’t leave these kids behind!
Dyslexia must be addressed and recognized as a learning disability!

If a teacher is going to go through the training it needs to be the entire 150 hours of Wilson or Orton-Gillingham. What ever method or route it needs to be complete and not just the first 50 hours. That is not productive for any child.
