Decoding Dyslexia - OR is a grassroots movement by Oregon families to address the struggles we face in securing appropriate reading interventions for our children with dyslexia in Oregon public schools. We urge our Department of Education and our local policy-makers to address the following topics: Decoding Dyslexia Oregon is advocating for: 1. A universal definition and understanding of dyslexia. 2. Early screening for dyslexia. 3. Evidence-based remediation programs for general and special education students who show signs of dyslexia. 4. Teacher training on dyslexia, its warning signs and accommodation strategies that can help students with dyslexia. 5. Access to appropriate assistive technologies in the public school setting for students with dyslexia. We call on OR policy-makers to support students with dyslexia. It is time to ensure our teachers are informed and trained on dyslexia. It is time for Oregon Public Schools to catch up with the science on reading and dyslexia. If not now, when?
