Declaration of Independence 2011 We the People hereby declare our Independence from the failed two party system and vow to chart a new path with representatives who will put our interests first and foremost. This congress sports a dismal 25% approval rating based on the average of 8 recent polls. Yet, we have heard Democrats and Republicans in your caucuses boldly claim that they speak for the American People. Based on the fact that only 25 out of 100 the people believe you are speaking for them your claim is patently false. We are the American people and you have not represented us for decades. We insist that you cease the practice of acting only to consolidate your own power, pander to the wealthy and subsidize big business while saying what you do, you do for the American people. But we know better. Under your leadership: - The top 400 tax payers have come to hold more wealth than the bottom 50% (160,000,000 Americans) - Nearly 25% of our children in poverty and yet you continue to defund their education - 80% of equity shares in businesses are held by 10% of the people - Wages have stagnated while healthcare costs have skyrocketed - The economy has impoverished many due to your actions - The Supreme Court has given personhood to souless corporations You have made it clear who you represent and it is not us. From now on we call the shots and we will tell you when you may claim you represent us. Until then you are part of the problem, perhaps THE problem, and we can and will do something about it.
