I have lived in the neighborhood for 17 years and use the HCC every week to play basketball with friends from across the city. We pay to use the facility and are disappointed in the City’s handling of the on-again-off-again funding situation regarding HCC and other neighborhood parks and community centers.

If the city defunded this, I feel it should go back to the community, and probably should have been discussed more with the neighborhood. I hope a good tenant is found. Personally, I would love to see Seiwakan Judo in the space after their Sellwood Community Center closed. I love their judo program for kids.

Parks are a life-blood for building community and connection in a neighborhood. In taking away our park, we take away a cohesive that is integral to the health of our city.

We have lived in this community for 30+ years and we are saddened to see that the Community Center is at risk of being used either for commercial enterprises or ceasing to be a family and community resource.

Hillside community center needs to remain for the community. NW Portland has very limited facilities like this.

It is unfortunate the timing of this was in the summer when many families were away and unaware of this short timeline. We should also be mindful of how the Hillside Community Center has helped foster a community, provided scholarships, and a smaller and comforting environment much needed for those with special needs. I hope this will be leased to those who will continue to serve these people and continue to serve the spirit of those who got a second mortgage and handed this wonderful center to the city.

Hillside is a historic public resource. It needs to continue to be run by Portland Parks and Recreation for the entire city's enjoyment.
