One of the reasons we moved to the Hillside neighborhood is because of easy access to such a wonderful neighborhood park and community space. As we're now getting ready to have kids, it's extremely disappointing to see that one of the things we were most excited about in our neighborhood is at such risk.

Opportunities for kids to get outside and play at a park should be supported now more than ever. I grew up playing at Hillside, both inside the gym and all around the park and it was where I met up with friends and shaped my love of sports. It is heart breaking to think of the end of Hillside Center.

My daughter is grown now but when she was young The community added so much value to our lives it’s unbelievable that you think of closing it we took classes there we played on the playground we played tennis

I can’t believe they defunded to save a mere $75k, so disappointed. Even if not funded by city, should still be available to the community it was meant to serve.

I fail to understand an approach to parks that opens new facilities without additional funding, thereby forcing the closure of existing locations. Hillside has been supported by the neighborhood both economically and through consistent use. It deserves to remain open and active, not shuttered as a result of poor planning that shifted funds elsewhere

Ithis city breaks my hearty , in the last 5 years my prooety taxes have increase over 35%, they literally charge me to park outside my house and they closed hillside. Clearly the neighborhood can do a better job than the city at managing the costs

We sent our son here for preschool, sports lessons, cooking class, many other classes and camps over the summer. Kids from north portland would also come here. It was a great way to meet new friends. It was great for people who work downtown to drop off kids for various programs. Hillside is a very special place that needs to remain and be protected for the community.

It is hard for me to believe it has come to this. The Hillside Center is a precious resource for all residents of the neighborhood. In the last forty years, my husband served on the board, I volunteered for many functions, and our son played soccer and basketball at the Center. It was and is a social crossroads which fosters a sense of community. Our family has enjoyed the Center and perhaps taken it for granted. The Spring Fling parties of the '80s for adults, the Halloween Celebrations and the 4th of July picnics for families, are part of the memories of every family which has a history of any length in the neighborhood. I often have thought how much we all owe to the "Trembling Twelve". They were generous and forward thinking. The City of Portland, it seems, is not.

The Hillside Community Center was designed by my father, architect Pietro Belluschi in 1947. It should ideally be placed on the National Register of Historic Places for posterity. Also, he was one of the financial contributors to help save the building in 1974.

The Hillside Community Center and Park long has been, and continues to be, an integral part of the Hillside neighborhood and a resource for residents of all of Northwest Portland. It is the one public place in the Hillside neighborhood where all its residents, as well as groups of residents, can meet, gather, eat, play and learn together, i.e., continue to be a community. As a longtime Portland resident, I am appalled by the City of Portland's decision to save $75,000 by defunding the Hillside Community Center in the FY2019-2020 PPR budget. By failing to find a way to continue funding the operation of all PPR Community Centers, PPR administrators and members of the Portland City Council have failed to do their jobs.

Hillside was supported by the neighborhood back in the 70's and it was to be a park in perpetuity. The neighborhood wants to provide a true community center for the surrounding area and have programs for all ages. It is a place for all families and it is a special place including a Pietro Belluschi building. The city should support it, support our petition and makes sure that Hillside will not be diminished in any way.

The community center needs to remain as a gathering place to bring neighbors together and as a defining part of the neighborhood. We have no facility like it. It's loss would be sorely missed.
