SibhanAllah. That’s not fair with the current 8th grade boys. Not only they should be allowed to finish their high school at ADS but boys should be enrolled for high school in the years to come InshahAllah. Separate sections for girls and boys can be made depending on the size of enrollment.

ADS is a huge family, and we have to stick together to maintain the closeness and unity that is promoted by this school. We are all brothers and sisters in Islam. We have to stay together in order to survive together. I consider the boys here as a part of my second family, so it would be really sad for them to go. A safe environment is where students will be able to get the right education that they need, and Alhamdulillah, ADS offers that. I heavily disagree with having an all-girls high school.

The notion is ridiculous. An Islamic school should be offered to all youth. What message are they trying to send out by only allowing girls access to the Islamic high school? Perhaps they imply that the young ladies need to be separated from the public and taught religion, while it doesn’t matter what the young men do. Reminder: both men and women are equal under Islam.

Education where both genders can interact is extremely important, especially during teen years when learning responsibility in one's interactions becomes crucial. As a university instructor, I have witnessed first hand how single gender education disadvantages students once they enter adulthood, as they have not had practice nor learned how to properly communicate with one another in a respectful way. Aside from this communication disadvantage, we greatly harm our own community by stopping Islamic education for boys at 14. We must be egalitarian and equal in our education so that the next generation can lead.

As a former student of ADS and a sibling of multiple ADS graduates who prayed for a future high school, this is a disappointing decision. This decision means that we are taking steps backward as a community who prayed an Islamic high school option for many years. Now that we have this option, it is being taken away from our boys. This decision does not just affect our potential high school students. This affects families who have multiple children at ADS. This decision was made without community input.

It is very sad to see this type of decision being made. These Muslim boys and Muslim Girls need guidance alike, specifically during this time in their lives. To turn away Young Muslim Men from the Islamic School is to turn them away from the Masjid, especially in these times.

It is a responsibility of the community to educate both genders.
